Film study_The Lion King

The lion king ( real time movie)


The Lion King is a 1994 animated musical drama film produced by Walt Disney. Influenced by “Janguru Taitei” Osamu Tezuka’s Manga and the William Shakespeare plays Macbeth. It tells the story of Simba, a young lion who is to take his father Mufasa's place as king. The movie was directed by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff.

Mise-en-scene:


The ending of the lion king is one of the most beautiful moments of the animation movie, with Scar and the hyenas gone, Simba descends from the top of Pride Rock where he is acknowledged by the pride as the rain falls again. Sometime later, Pride Rock is restored to its former glory and Simba looks down happily at his kingdom with Nala, Timon, and Pumbaa by his side; Rafiki presents Simba and Nala's newborn cub to the inhabitants of the Pride Lands and the "circle of life" continues.

Settings
The scene takes place in the savanna, Simba, Nala, Timon and Pumbaa by his said; Rafiki presents their new born. All this with the song : Circle of Life by Elton John.
Costume:
Since it’s the jungle and they are animals, there is no special costume just a little wind effect on Simba’s mane.
Lightning:
The scene starts with a slight lighting at night, under the rain which shows the power and pride of Simba in the scene after he defeated Scar. After that, it’s the day and the pride rock is restored.and now th e lightning is strong to show the beauty of the moment and characters full of life.
Actor:
The Actors in this scene are animated characters of the Savana’s animals.

Narrative:
In the African savannah, all animals of the Pride Lands gathered to celebrate the birth of Prince Simba, son of King Mufasa and Queen Sarabi. All except Scar, Mufasa's younger brother, for whom the birth of this heir annihilates all his hopes of accessing one day to the power. With the collaboration of hyenas, Scar imagine more evil plans to destroy his brother and nephew. Despite an initial failure, he manages to eliminate Mufasa and convinces Simba that he is responsible for the death of his father to force him to flee and thus make prey of its hyenas. While managing to escape, Simba finally exhausted in the desert. He is rescued by Timon the meerkat and Pumbaa the warthog, with whom he will grow, feeding on larvae and following a new philosophy of life: Hakuna matata, that is to say, to live without worry, overnight.

Having Become anadult, Simba found by chance his childhood friend Nala, that a hunting expedition had taken to the other side of the desert. She tells him that Scar has become a tyrant, devastated the Pride Lands and famine threatens the whole tribe, she tries to reason with him and encourage his return as the rightful king. Still feeling guilty for the death of his father, Simba refuses to return with his family. It is ultimately the mandrill Rafiki, the wise of the kingdom, who will make him see the ghost of his father, this one will tell him that he must resume its rightful place, the King of the Pride Lands. The words of the latter succeed in changing Simba view. Despite being in a weak position at the beginning of his confrontation with Scar, the latter reveals to Simba that it was him who killed his father Rage gives him the energy to get up and constrained Scar to confess his crime to the tribe; this encourages the lionesses to join Simba to fight the tyrant and his hyenas. After the victory, Simba becomes king of the Pride Lands.
Some time later, all animals in the kingdom come together to celebrate the birth of Princess Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala.

In this Scene you can see the quality of design even at the time.
