Mulan (epic movie)
Mulan is
a 1998 Disney’s animated musical comedy drama film, the adaptation of the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan centers on
a young woman who disguises herself as a man to take the
place of her elderly father in the army. The film is directed by Tony Bancroft and Barry Cook.
Film Theory:
Mulan
can be categorized as an Action Adventure movie, The story of a Chinese maiden tha in order to save
her father from death in the army,
secretly goes in his place and becomes one of China's greatest heroes in
the process.
Mise-en-scenes:
This
scene is the favorite of mine, very powerful and full of emotions. In this
scene Mualan decided to replace her father at the army, leaving home to start
her journey.
The
settings:
The scene began sometimes around
midnight in an old Chinese mansion during the Han Dynasty. Adding rain and
lightning to the scene putted more weight and emotions on the scene which
immerses the viewer into the movie.
The Costumes:
Since the movie is set in china
during the Han dynasty, and to add authenticity to the actors, Mulan is Wearing
a traditional Chinese armor from the Time and with an old Blade.
The Lightning:
The lightning of this scene is
articular good, soft lights since the scene is at night with some lightning
with the rain which add a slight of serious and gravity to the moment.
Actor:
The actor in this scene is an
animated character, a Chinese girl in her early twenties named Mulan. Ming-Na Wen gave the voice to the character.
The Narrative:
The movie start
with the life of a clumsy girl during the Han dynasty, a very sexist time of
china where girls couldn’t work and had to get married in order to dignify her
Family an ancestors. But I order to save her father from a sure death in the
battle and to prove herself to her parents she decides to replace him at the
front, here start her journey where she will learn endurance, force and
willingness, in order to become a soldier helped by Mushu, a red Chinese dragon
who wants to get back his position as an guardian and without forgetting her
lucky cricket. She will stop the Hun army,
gratified by the king of china and will go back to her father. The
conclude will be in her home with all her family and the captain Li Shang, who has become enamored with Mulan.
