Robots (futuristic movie)

Robots is a 2005 American computer animated comic science fiction film produced by Blue Sky Studios. The story was created by Chris Wedge and William Joyce, a children's book author/illustrator. The two were trying to create a film version of Joyce's book Santa Calls but instead they came up with a movie about robots. It’s the story of a young inventor in a world of Robots, who wants to travel to the big city to achieve his goal; Work for inspiration’s company.

Film Theory:

Robots is a futuristic film, can be classified under adventure comedy science fiction movie the story follows the adventure of a young Robot who went to follow his dreams in the big city.

Mise-en-scene:

It’s a really funny scene, After Walking Loretta home, ender starts dancing and singing “singing in the oil” (take-off on the iconic dance number by Gene Kelly, "Singin' in the Rain") but he let his guard down and get caught by one of the Sweepers and taken to the Chop Shop.

Settings:

This scene takes place in the empty street of Robot City, sometimes after midnight, in a futuristic world of robots.

Costumes:

Characters in the scene are robot, they used a different style and design on each robots based on the period of manufacture of each robots, playing with the colors, shapes and designs specific to every single one of them.

Lightning:

The scene takes place at night in an empty street, to give a romantic atmosphere to the scene the is only slight lights from lanterns and Water Fountains.

Actors:

The character of this scene is Fender, a rusty red robot with light brown eyes, and thins arms and legs. He is voiced by Robin Williams.

Narrative:

The movie start with X a young Robot full of ambition, he wants to become an inventor and in order to accomplish that his town is to small for that, he needs to move to Robot City and meet Bigweld, the most brilliant inventor and benefactor of all robots. Once in Robot City he meets Fender, a ramshackle robot scraping by through taking souvenir photos (with a camera that has no film) and selling maps to the stars' homes. After a harrowing ride on the crosstown express, Rodney arrives at the gate of Bigweld Industries. There he learns that Phineas T. Ratchet has taken over Bigweld Industries and is about to discontinue the manufacture of spare parts, all protestant are sent to the underground chop shop, and melt down by Rachet’s Mother.

One of Rodney’s friends, Herb, has fallen ill, and cannot find replacement parts. Rodney decides to try to contact Bigweld directly, so he can beg him to make spare parts again.  At the end they arrive to convince him and try to defeat Ratchet, He managed though to defeat Bigweld a first time and capture him, but Rodne come back to shop chop and after a desperate battle they finally won.

Bigweld goes to Rivet Town to tell Rodney's parents that their son is now his right-hand inventor and eventual successor. Rodney makes his father's dream come true by giving him a three-bell trumpet.

Cinematography:

Robots is a computer animated movie, in this scene we can see the the fluidity of movement of the animated characters, while they are dancing and the extreme graphic details.
