Shot story

This video for 20 words. This is the second one. Because i think the first time did not good enough. This time i used modeling clay and drawing, one by one took pictures after mode a shot video. 

On a hot summer afternoon of AUGUST, my cute little PINK CAR broke down in FRONT of Emilie’s coffee. I HATED that day, After having a QUARREL with my father over some stupid MISTAKE I did, losing the DOOR’s KEYS, and finally that…that really was the straw that broke the camel's back. I took my IPHONE out off my bag, found a MISSED CALL from my mother, she PROBABLY wants to know what happened between me and dad, called the car shop and asked them to send someone to help with the car. I started wondering what did I do to deserve all what’s happening to me today god really hates me that much, when I suddenly saw him, looking at me with his CHILDISH SMILE, a smile that MOCKS and seduce you at the same time. It was CLEAR that I had hard CRUSH on him so I followed him to Emilie’s, ordered a CUP of espresso and sat in front of him. I was there pretending to check my phone’s PHOTOS when he wink at me, stood up and came and told me ; hey wanna PLAY a little with me ! (the guy from the car shop knock on the car’s window and wakes me up) ohh god…all the fun part was just a DREAM…(cry…)

Semester Conclusion

 

this semester was semester was, if i may say, suprisingly good, i thought at first it's going to be booring and meaningless especially the writing classes, frankly i didn't adhere to it at the begining i thought that it's just a pert of time, why should we have to add so much explanations after all we are doing art, it should speak fo itself. But after doing the 20 words story and learning about the mind maping. This class i think will not help me only in writing but also in my profisional life,  even as a professionel artist you will always have to write, wether it is a preface for your artwork or a job proposal, writing will be present.

 

Digital storyboarding and illustration, this is a class that i hated, not because of the lecturer or anything of the kind, but because of my lack in matter of drawing. When i choosed to study animation i thought that it's going to be all about softwares and other digital solutions, but it seems that it's not the case. Still i think i learned a lot in this class, like learning how to do thumbnails sketches for my storyboard, which my drawing talent, if i can say so, are enough to realize.

 

Video production, a class that i loved since my first attendance, i just love being behind the camera shooting the scenes and directing the actors. I especially loved doing the short movie, even if it was harder than i have expected, the lack of equipment, the impossibility to controle the shooting environment, and adjusting the lightning...much much harder than it seems.

 

If i had the chance to study this semester again, i think i would get a better result, a more polished one. Now i know what i am lacking, specially the Digital storyboarding and ilusstration and Video production, in the second one for exemple, i would try to get more material for the lightning and try to find better sites for the shooting, and try other angles for the camera.

 

Now at the end of tis semester, i don't think that any of what i have learned was useless. Even if i didn't really like the Digital storyboarding and illustration classes, i know that the reason for that was my lack in matter of drawing, but i tried did my best to improve it and worked hard on my sketches and storyboard.

 

The combination of the three modules was exellent since the subjects studied where related, starting by writing your thoughts on a paper, giving them a form on your sketches and finaly making them alive in front of your camera.

Digital storyboardin and illustration

Reflecting learning outcomes:

1. Illustrate a knowledge of story telling planning:

At the begining of this past semester, we started by learning basic sketching techniques and practicing this techniques on drawing objects first (box, stone, clothe) after  that i started little by lttle to draw human faces and body parts. After i started combining both objects and human figures.

2. Experimenting on digital and traditional techniques of storytelling:

When i finished the writing part(the story's script), i started  shooting the video then sketch a thumbnail storyboard, just some small rough sketches that will help later in finalizing my storyboard andwich will help defining the technical parameters: description of the motion, the camera, the lighting, etc.

3. Employ a detail plan and technique to effectively aid the construction of digital video:

This is the final step in my story board, i tryed first to use my thumbnail storyboard to create a new one, more polished and with better sketches. after trying hard i didnt like the results (due to my lack in drawing) so i decided to instead of drawing the final storyboard i can just use photo taken from the video montage and create a 2D story board using it.

4. Compile an online journal which evaluates and reflects the practice:

To help me fully understand the concept of storyboarding, I have seeked help in different online solutions such as Wikiuniversity, Filmmakeriq.com and other universities online learning portals (Berkley, London film school..ect) to improve my knowledge on the subject and open new points of view about it. Watching student film projects really helped me also to understand the consideration of the lithning, type of shots and the motions.

5. Present body of work which demonstrates an understanding of the role of storyboarding in creative story medium:

All my work, and undertanding of the role of Storyboard has been represented via my storyboard, thumbnal sketches and the Final video.

 

Digital Video Prouction- Critic a Short Film

Short Film Critic 

This story of  a depressed office guy，he was so lonely and depressed, he had been filled with the need to give love. Until one day he through the window and into the office across the street, and everything changed.

The whole story used body language to make audience understands. It was success and very clear because everything on point. But just have a problem is no new techniques and style. Angle shooting are normal, have not creative ways shooting such as give a little motion animation to make the short film. I think this story of the movie is simple but very touching.

Dear Johnathon and jack:

I imagine you boys would be estactic when you see this letter, because I have left behind our family treasure for you. it is buried within the bush near our home. It must be your duty to retrieve the treasure. Go, my grandsons, discover your fruitful treasure with all your wisdom and might.

Your dearest grandpop

The brothers are excited about the treasures that could change their lives. They have decided to go on the treasure hunt. They bring along with their shovels and head towards the forest.  There is 1 tree that is the biggest, the oldest amongst all trees within the forest. The brothers decide to start from there. As they keep digging and digging, to their surprises, they have dug up a piece of cloth with their grandpa's name on it. "Yes we have found it!" they think. They dig harder than ever. As they dig deeper they have found a box. They are estatic! The prosperous life the treasure could offer them flashes in front of their eyes. Johnathon decides to open the box carefully. However, inside the box, there is only a piece of rock and a letter... 

' Dear Johnathon and jack,

I must appologize for the false hope. There is no such thing as a family treasure within the forest. I just want you boys to understand that life is full of hardship and challenges. If you have found this letter, I bet you boys can withstand any difficulties and challenges ahead of you. No matter what, you must live on, just like this piece of rock.

Synopsis :

          as the story has to be related to a box, stone and cloth, mine is about 2 brothers. who are living a poor and miserable life. One day, as they are tidying their room, they have discovered a letter in a book that their father left to them, written by their grandfather who has already passed away. The letter gave them the emplacement of the family treasure, so here there journey begins, looking for the box that is going to put an end to their endless poor life.

Process and idea development: 

The task gaven to us was about writing a story where we can use three objects; box, stone and cloth, so I started thinking about a story where i can make a use of this three objects. after a long thinking, and consulting my lecturer i came up with this story, my principle aim while writing the story is making the audiance feel the drama and poorness of the caracters, this is why when i started the shooting process i choosed dark scenes with no low lighting and slow music to put the accent on the deepness of the ecenes.

 i tried to experiment different angles, motions and lightning to get the best composition possible that refflect the script and the story's meaning. After finishing the thumbnail sketches that helped me to start the shooting and later choosing the right photo's for the final storyboard, I started the shooting using a Sony NEX-F5 camera.

Faced problems:

the lack of equipment was one of the biggest problems i had, specially for the lightning, i couldn't get a polished result specialy for the first scene where i had to improvise and make a small lamp to help me.

In the searching scene, the impossibility to control the environment was a big issue, i had to retake a lot of shoots because some car passing by the shooting  or some walker came to wondering what we are doing.

Conclusion:

 I think i did a fair job whooting this video, even if my work need a little polishing. i would have liked if i had more time to fully accomplish this movie, it wasn't hard but it took a long time to finish the work. I really like the shooting part, working with the actors and directing them. I hope that everybody enjoys the movie as much as i enjoyed shooting it .

Writing for Designers Learning outcomes 

This past Semester we focused on enhancing our writing skills, by having multiples writing for designers classes and assignment. Being a designer is not only about designing artworks, manipulating digital softwares... It is also about making the public opinion understand your work, describing it and knowing how to sale you pieces.

1.Demonstrate key writing skills in storytelling:

This was the first major skill that served as a basis to all what came next. I learned in this part how to write a narrative story with pace, whichs, as you no doubt know, the speed at which the story moves(Intro-->Content-->Climax-->Outro) . which taught me how to build a story and what is the different pronoun used for First,Second and Third person speech. This has allowed me to easily understand and learn what is coming next.

2.Undertake mind mapping exercise to formulate ideas:

In this one, we had to write a short story, using 20 words preselected. thanks to this assignment i learned how to organize my work, mind plane the steps i have to follow in order to formulate useful ideas. I had some problems at the starts about it, how can i write a coherent story with 20 words preselected but after listening the lecturer's explanations and following the steps he taught us, i finally mastered it and wrote with success the final story.

3.Work effectively and constructively in a group to discuss, debate and share ideas:

This task was about watching the film "THE WOMEN IN BLACK" and everybody had to choose his preferred scene, draw a sketch of it and share our thoughts and opinions in the Photo Studio. During this task i learned to listen to others opinions and idea, and that everyones voice matters and can help you improving your understanding of the subject by opening for you new points of view of the subject. But sharing your point of view is as important, since i could help others to develop their ideas by giving them my opinions.

4.Compile an online journal while critically evaluates and reflects the practice:

In this task, i had a really hard time to fully understand it, as it was for the majority in the class. We had to read scholarly journals and popular magazines, and deduct the differences between the two, at first it was really hard but after putting my mind to it i finally arrived to distinguish between the two and write the point of differences. 

5.Present a body of writing which demonstrates a clear and concise understanding of key concepts :

The main goal of this semester was polishing our writing skills and learning new ones. i learned how to properly write a narrative essay (story telling), with a good pace writing, creating characters that interact with each other and with the story flow,formulate ideas by organizing my thoughts and undertaking mind mapping exercises, to discuss my opinion and share it with other in order to improve my final idea. we also learned what's the difference between a journal and an article.

I feel a noticeable improvement in my English writing skills, i am more in ease when i am talking to my friend, discussing with them or just writing a message, even when i am reading a simple article in a people Magazine or an article in a Political revue.

Short Story

box(Mourad),clothe(wail),stone(zaki) were best friends. They were hanging out all the times together untill a tragedy happened to the weakest which is the box (mourad), a stranger came up and wanted to miss around with Mourad.

His name is Anis, he is a bodybuilder, and he worked for the military army for more than 20 years. He got some extra ordinary skills especially in burning boxes so he always walks with his lighter and a bottle of petrol. One day he chose a victim Mourad as he's the one who seems to be the feeblest, Thus, he went directly to the box and has dropped a large volume of petrol on box's chest. He wanted to focus on burning his tits until the cloth showed up and tried to extinguish the fire. Fortunately he succeeded in doing then he saved his life. So they decided to invite their close friend Stone(zaki) to celebrate the event and make a pool party in putra perdana Ruvenna villa condominum, Zaki was the animator and the event maker of the party as he didn't help when they needed him.
